The Japan-America Society of Oregon (JASO) has established
a special fund to provide relief to people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku, Japan.
The Oregon Japan Relief Fund has been set up in a partnership with Mercy Corps, a highly regarded relief agency based in Portland that has been alleviating suffering across the globe for 32 years. Mercy Corps teams with Peace Winds in Japan, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the support of people in distress.

JASO is joined in its efforts by a number of other Japan-related organizations in Oregon, including the Portland Japanese Garden, the Shokookai of Portland, the Portland-Sapporo Sister City Association, the Center for Japanese Studies at Portland State University, the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program Alumni Association of Portland and Azumano Travel, along with Portland General Electric.
